I got two boxes from eShakti today, which contained several items, including a pair of jeans and the two piece floral suit.

I have to say DHL is the most frustrating private post company I've ever had to deal with. I called twice, on two different days, to try and leave a note that the delivery driver needed to leave my packages with my apartment complex's package concierge office. Neither time was the message passed on, because I got a call from the delivery driver today asking if he could leave the package on my porch.

My apartment building slightly resembles a rowhouse, but it's obviously apartments. And no, you can't leave a package in front of the door. I had to walk him through the fact that there was an apartment office, and he needed to go there and leave the packages with the package concierge service, so I could retrieve it later from a locker with my personal code.

He managed that, and I did retrieve the packages. I will probably wear the floral embroidered shirt tomorrow, because it does look neat.

Sadly, the two-piece suit has turned out to be more mauve than the 'wine' I was expecting. I can wear jewel tones; I'm really dubious that I can wear something that is quite this grey/pastel. I'd really hate to have to send it back, since eShakti so rarely offers matching separates like this, but I think this might be exactly the wrong color for me.

Today [livejournal.com profile] fabrisse and I went over to the Talbots; I tried on several sets of dress slacks for the new job. Their weekend chinos, when rolled down, are long enough and will be fine for officewear. I also picked up a new suit for the first day -- blue & white bird's-eye twill in cotton -- along with two button-down shirts, two tunic-type shirts, and grey slacks.

With the Talbots birthday discount and the current sale, everything was 40% off, so why I will be paying this off for a while, I think it was a pretty good investment. My jeans worked fine at the old job, but this new job is more office than lab, and thus the jeans won't cut it.

I still hate that fake pockets are a thing. The saleswoman found me a lot of nice slacks, but I had to reject two outright because they had fake pockets instead of real pockets; fake pockets make no sense to me, because if they're going to all the trouble to cut and sew in false welts for pockets, why not just make them really pockets? How much could that possibly add to the cost of the clothes at that point?

neotoma: "Squee!" goes the bunny (SqueeBunny)

On my vacation to visit my family, [personal profile] texasgrandma took me to several thrift stores, including one called Top Drawer that was a bit upscale -- target towards the university students, is my guess.

They'd just received several dozen sets of new shoes from a shop that had gone out of business -- several dozen sets of Fluevogs, to be precise. [personal profile] ellen_fremedon had been telling me how great these shoes are for a while now... and they certainly are attractive and eye-catching shoes.

At a thrift store...

You see where this is going, don't you?

Fluevog D.O.G (Disciples of Good) shoes, for cheap )

The hi-top sneakers (the Shawn style) I had to go up a size to get ones that fit the width of my foot, because Fluevog seems to have a narrow footbed as their template. I'm going to need a shoehorn to wear them -- but that's a small price to pay for nifty shoes. And these are nifty shoes -- especially the dressier low-tops (the Adam style). I'll have to figure out places to wear them, especially once the weather turns and I don't have to wear sheepskin boots every time I step outside.

I laced them according to the Over Under Lacing from Ian's Shoelace Site. I might change to one of the bi-colored patterns for the hi-tops, since they're the tricky ones to get on; it's getting past the heel that's the problem, especially because they're vegan, and unlikely to stretch the way leather will.
