Shoes...

On my vacation to visit my family, texasgrandma took me to several thrift stores, including one called Top Drawer that was a bit upscale -- target towards the university students, is my guess.

They'd just received several dozen sets of new shoes from a shop that had gone out of business -- several dozen sets of Fluevogs, to be precise. ellen_fremedon had been telling me how great these shoes are for a while now... and they certainly are attractive and eye-catching shoes.

At a thrift store...

You see where this is going, don't you?








The hi-top sneakers (the Shawn style) I had to go up a size to get ones that fit the width of my foot, because Fluevog seems to have a narrow footbed as their template. I'm going to need a shoehorn to wear them -- but that's a small price to pay for nifty shoes. And these are nifty shoes -- especially the dressier low-tops (the Adam style). I'll have to figure out places to wear them, especially once the weather turns and I don't have to wear sheepskin boots every time I step outside.

I laced them according to the Over Under Lacing from Ian's Shoelace Site. I might change to one of the bi-colored patterns for the hi-tops, since they're the tricky ones to get on; it's getting past the heel that's the problem, especially because they're vegan, and unlikely to stretch the way leather will.

I love Fluevogs, and can never justify the cost - they're gorgeous shoes, and so well-made! I'm insanely jealous.

Would you believe that texasgrandma tried to talk me out of buying them on the basis of a) space in my suitcase and b) too expensive?

Considering they were $12.50 and $15, I kind of made o.O faces at her.

Yeah, that was my reaction.

If there had been any other styles that fit me and were flat soled, I would have *mailed* them home! *And* still come out way ahead :D

We need to come up with places I can wear those D.O.G. Adams, because they are *spiffy*. Maybe the next night out with the local fen, if it's not too cold.

Also, cinco needs to be informed that Fluevogs makes down to a 4.5, because I saw them for sale.

They look wonderful. And comfy. Texas Grandma needs to see the non-reduced price in a shop window, like in Toronto.

You've met my mom. She wouldn't even consider shoes that cost a third the normal price of Fluevogs. Otoh, she's still wearing the Campers I had to give her because they cut up my heels -- her feet are just enough smaller than mine that they fit perfectly on her.

Oh, I wouldn't expect her to wear them -- but she might appreciate what an outrageous bargain you got.

I believe she decided that Fluevogs are overpriced to start with. Also, this particular line was made in China -- after careful inspection of the factory involved, according to the Fluevog website -- so that means she wouldn't buy them even if they were cheap.

I am looking forward to the new Awesome Boots when you're up for a longish day.

They have the coolest shoes. Of course, I've only seen 'em online, but definitely interesting design.
