Summary: Lucifer is back in his Cage, but one averted Apocalypse doesn't mean much in the face of another, more human one. Sam Winchester, the Archangel Gabriel, and a man millennia out of his own time have wandered into a small Kansas town, where they get to deal with tree thieves, suspicious sheriffs, shady characters, political in-fighting, looming starvation, and the occasional pagan deity passing through. It's just one damn thing on top of another after The End of the World. [Crossover with JERICHO (tv series)]

Hrafn title

Prologue – I will lay my burden in the cradle of your grace )
I am deep into the revisions of my [livejournal.com profile] gabriel_bigbang story, which is going to be posted on the 23rd.

It has gone from a draft that was almost exactly 40,000 words, to a revision that is definitely going to top out at *over* 50,000 words. So far, only one story that long has been posted, so I have no idea whether people will even be interesting in reading it.

Fortunately, my alpha readers have been great, a friend has offered to do a line proofread, and I don't think I'm screwing *too* much with the Jericho characters -- beside squishing a religious horror universe into their nice hard SF post-nuclear cosy catastrophe world, I mean...

Right now, I have to beat off idea for sequels, for other fics, and better titles and just keep chugging through the revision and expansion.

ETA: Broke 50,000 words tonight. Hopefully won't get up to 60,000 before this is finished enough to post... but I still have to revise most of the climax, and maybe flesh out a sex scene.

neotoma: Hello My Name is Loki (Gabriel) (Gabriel=Loki)
( Jan. 30th, 2011 12:39 am)
40K words for my draft for the Gabriel Big Bang -- though I still dislike the working title. I have 2 days to come up with one I like better, or I'm just going to have to go with 'Wayward Son', which is hardly an original title for a SPN fic, even a crossover fic.

And possibly I need to find a beta who is into the second fandom, since both me and my alpha reader got into the series in the course of me writing this monster...

One of Loki's names was Sky Walker )

Another was Far-Traveler )

and sometimes he was referred to as the Bound God )

Oddly enough, this is turning into a bit of a love story between Angrboda and Gabriel ... while his marriage to Sigyn is more of friendly compromise between two people who don't have *that* much in common except harassment from an authority figure they both have to deal with. I don't know what's going on with these two relationships...
One of the things that I got from the CON.txt procrastinator's panel (oh yeah, I definitely needed to be there) is that it's okay to post fragments.

So, congratulations everyone, you get a fragment today.

This is from "Son of Laufey", the Gabriel backstory that I've been working on -- since SPN let me play in one of my oldest fandoms (aka Norse mythology), I'm just running with it.

Gabriel is fascinated by the baby. It's tiny and fluffy, and he helped Angrboda create it, though she's done most of the work. He holds it to his chest and marvels at the soft feel of the newborn's fur and flesh. 933 words )

Should I use the thorn -- þ -- and eth -- ð -- when I use Norse names and words, or is it easier to read if the names are transliterated as long as I'm consistent?
So, the season is over, and I am more or less satisfied with the finale (though there was one moment of "That's kind of neat! Except...no.") and the bunnies are biting hard, seeing as how I won't get Jossed or Kripked in the next four months. I might actually get something finished before the sixth season starts.

Thus, bunnies, all nice and outlined...

[personal profile] schmevil said what *I* want is a story where Castiel is Gabriel and Anna's fledge, and they're raising their awkward teen-angel on earth... yeah, you can imagine how my brain ran with it...

Angels and Ostriches -- it's a Wee!chester bunny  )

The other bunny is mutated from my plans for a sequel to We Sat Down and Wept, because if the show made Gabriel into Loki, I am damn well going to run with it!

The Apotheosis of Sam Winchester (chock full of spoilers for the finale) Might be Sam/Gabriel/Kali. Or gen, you never know )
I think I'm going to write a follow-up, probably two, to We Sat Down and Wept.

Jörmungandr and Fenrisulf want to talk to me. Neither of them is reassuring, you know? The Migard Serpent has *plans* to break the Doom of the Gods if the Winchesters manage to avert *their* Destinies by averting the Apocalypse ... and the Wolf wants revenge, and he wants it *bloody*.

They're kind of scary, because they've both got aspects of their father spoilers for SPN ep 5.19 Hammer of the Gods  ) I might wind up writing the story of how he became the Trickster, got married a couple of times, had kids, and walked away when it fell apart because of 'Destiny' yet again -- I could get a lot of interesting things out of the differences between Asgard and Heaven...

I have a story that's in-progress, but semi-stalled, and two *serious* bunnies nipping at my heels. This is not fun...

The WIP is 20000 words and it will be annoying if I stall out now. I just need to complete it, which means applying butt to chair tonight and tomorrow and writing. Especially because I think part of my block was Castiel, and given how BAMF he's been in recent episodes, I think I've got a better idea on how to handle him.

The Vessel-fic bunny has split into two -- the prologue (working title 'Troll Killing for Fun and Profit', which is hellava lot cheerier than the actual plot) is all about how a 10th century hay-farmer got to the point where he said yes to Gabriel when Gabriel wanted to hijack his body and run away from home in it. It's got trolls, witches, seers, Vikings and a lot of snark, and more anthropological detail about pre-Christian Iceland than most people will notice -- and the main bunny, which is Sam trying to figure out what actually went down in Detroit when he only remembers bits and pieces. Sam gets to deal with Dean's inability to be around normal people, Jimmy's desire to never see them ever again, and Hrafn's utter inability to fit into a society that frown on manslaughter as a method of dispute settlement.

The second bunny is a Band of Brothers crossover/fusion thingie, which I'm trying to kill dead because I don't write RPF.

There seems to be a fan-challenge on YouTube to create the best AU vid for Supernatural. Some of the entries are flawed but neat, and some are downright awesome. Here are a few that I think are worth watching -- if anyone knows of the journals of the makers, let me know and I'll update the links:

A False Heaven -- Dean kills Sam to prevent Lucifer from getting him -- but for Sam, Heaven isn't Heaven with Dean. Lyrical and sad

Apocalypse -- What if Dean and Sam will play their roles? What if they would say "yes"? Beautiful and bleak.

Zombie King -- Sam is the 'first' zombie, the original host and Dean gets killed by him, but instead of being turned an angel intervenes and brings Dean back to life. He must stop Sam of course, before the whole world gets infected. This is seriously well constructed, creepy, and tragic.

Murdering the Angels -- Dean came back from Hell a new man.

Yes -- Completely distraught by the destruction Lucifer has brought to the world, Dean is confronted once more by Zachariah, who shows him that saying yes to Michael could be the only thing to end this destruction and protect Sam from Lucifer. Emotionally shattered, Dean finally says yes. The world changes. Not actually part of the challenge, but the constructed reality is amazing, and OMG, if God shows up like this in the show, the fandom will have a collective fit. :D

In Supernatural, we've seen two of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse who aren't on horses anymore... )

So, it stands to reason that Death and Pestilience (or Conquest, I'm not quite sure which version of the White Horseman they're going to use on the show -- heck, they might decided to use the Anti-Christ interpretations, which means Jesse!) are going to drive expensive American-brand cars of some sort, possibly with horse names... what might they be?

I'm kind of loving the idea that at least one of the Horsemen drives a Pinto (probably Death, given the bad reputation of that car), but since I'm not up on classic or luxury cars, I wouldn't mind some suggestions.

I'm also trying to decide if angels in armor -- as Michael is constantly being shown to wear in the paintings that they putting the background of episodes -- wear helmets or not. It would appear not, but if the angels are wearing armor, why not helmets?
I'm at 12000+ words, and it's *still* growing.

And for some reason, Sam is my main viewpoint character.

Seriously, this is not at all what I planned on writing. It's like one of those magician's hankercheif tricks -- I just keep pulling more and more out of my sleeve. When will it end?
