[livejournal.com profile] sanj was very nice and went with me as an enabler when I went shoe shopping today. My lovely brown frog clogs are blown at the heel, and so I had to get new ones. Last night, we hit DSW, and did manage to find some brown Born shoes on discount, but I really needed to get a variety so that I didn't destroy another pair in six months...

ETA: We went to Comfort One Shoes in Dupont Circle today, the one that carries the funky European brands.

We hit the jackpot! Can you see the common theme in shoes I like?

Industrial Bou from Camper 20221-006 (green and peacock-y!)

A Pikolinos 'Romana' Mule -- totally cute cut-outs and embroidery, for a fantastic dress shoe.

El Naturalista Iggdrasil N095 -- swirl on a frog shoe, if not quite as cute as the brown frog clogs.

Also, the local funky clothing store Amano carries El Naturalista? wtf?! Maybe I should check them out tomorrow and see if they can special order shoes... I'd sure like their *lace-up* shoes.

I am also in debt, but that's what I get for wanting shoes that will actually last more than a few weeks the way I walk on them...

Btw, Pikolinos makes a strappy version of the shoe I took out of sales clerk's hand... it comes in black on brandy (http://www.simonsshoes.com/simons/detail.aspx?ID=445&CategoryID=128&menuID=66&menuID_lev2=128&menuID_lev3=) ... bliss.

*And* I can get it in my size, I do believe. That was a 42, so it's doable... in six months when I can afford shoes again.

As it turns out, *Amano* carries them, and is having a sale. I am even poorer, though with a $40 discount. But *extremely* righteously shod.

Next time I need shoes, we can hit Amano first, even though they don't carry El Naturalista...

Ah, now SHOE SHOPPING is a post I can relate to! LOVE the second pair, very nice!!! Just may have to get myself down to DSW soon!

From: [identity profile] neotoma.livejournal.com

Oh, *these* I didn't get at DSW. There is no way that DSW would carry these, as they're *expensive* brands from Europe. Camper (http://www.Camper.com) is a UK brand that wears like iron -- one of my friends has had the same pair for 5 years -- and El Naturalista (http://www.elnaturalista.com/index.php/en) and Pikolinos are both Spanish.

Ah, the way I read your post I thought you'd gotten those at DSW as well. I'll have to see if I can find them near me.

It's 6 years, and I think it's actually a Spanish brand. But they are fantastic. And next payday, I'm replacing my old ones with-- hmm. The camper website doesn't seem to have a way to link to a specific shoe page, but it's the Pelotas Ariel model 29986-020, in burgundy-- basically my old Kryptons, only with the seams detailed like a wingtip! I'm already in love.

And you are indeed righteously shod. I love the Pikolinos!

Are they a Spanish brand? Oh well, then it looks like Spain makes the best women's shoes in the world. Take that, Italy.

You should totally go to the Comfort One in Dupont Circle. We actually asked, and the salesmen explained that *that* particular store was the one that carried the funky shoes, like pinstriped Campers.

[livejournal.com profile] sanj found some totally cute Camper pumps, that came in a gorgeous oxblood color -- they just were gone in her size. You might find something equally righteous.

And you will see the Pikolinos if we run into each other at the festival today.

Those look great - and comfortable. I'm long past the age where I want to go anywhere near heels. I bought shoes today, too -- a pair of New Balance walking shoes, mens 8 1/2. It's about the only way I can get the E width I need. Heh, these have nice deep cobalt blue coloring in them, which I appreciate, being a fan of anything blue.

I've got a high arch and wide feet, so shoe-shopping is always 'interesting' for me.

Hey, when I go for sneakers and boots, I generally get men's 9 1/2. European shoes are just about the only ones that *make* nice women's shoes in my size (42).

You might want to look at European shoes -- they're generally wider than American, and they're *much* better made. If you take men's 8 1/2, you're probably a 39 or 40, and there are LOTS of those available.

Well, I got brave and went to the Camper website and ordered a pair of shoes. First I measured my foot in cm and did the conversions - at 25.5/26 cm my feet are EU 41 assuming the online conversion utility is correct. We'll see how this works out - I notice the shoes are sold by size, but not width. Since they fit you, I'm assuming the toe box is roomy enough to accommodate most of us. :)

I think Camper might actually run long, since I managed to get my feet into a 41, and I almost always wear 42.

And I have duck feet -- very wide across the ball of my feet -- so I tend to go for square and roomy toes.

Let me know how it turns out for you. I've had lots of luck with European shoes.

Oh my. *makes note to drag mother to the Pikolinos factory next time she visits*

From: [identity profile] neotoma.livejournal.com

You have a Pikolinos factory near you? Do they give factory direct discounts?

::is jealous::

From: [identity profile] temve.livejournal.com

Not near me, but near where my mother lives - they are produced in Elche in Spain, and I usually make a point of going there every time I visit my mum.

Sadly, the factory shop is pretty small and has very limited choice available, but what they have is nicely discounted, yes. Except finding, say, black ones in a size 38/39 is damn near impossible because of the limited supply to the factory shop...
