My friend
greenygal and I were discussing Into the Spiderverse, and decided the first time the Spiders see Miguel unmasked, someone (probably Miles) is going to ask, “Wait, are you a vampire Spider-Man?”
This lead to some delving into history of vampire myths.
Did you know that the Bela Lugosi version of Dracula came out in 1931? Noir has almost certainly seen it. Also, The Mummy, Frankenstein, and The Invisible Man. He’s going to get references to early Universal Horror films.
And Popeye cartoons, but not Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, or any of the Merrie Melodies characters because Porky was the first in 1935.
And he will get references to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its sequels, because even if you think he’s Peter B’s age, the first book was published in 1900. They were incredibly popular, and there would have been a new book every year throughout Noir’s childhood.
This probably leads to some hilariously nerdy arguments, such as ‘what color are the magic slippers’? In the book, they are silver. In the film in our universe, they’re ruby, because that filmed better. They’re probably emerald or sapphire in Miles’ universe, and the other in Gwen’s.
So one of the first movies they share should be the 1939 Wizard of Oz. It was in Technicolor, it’s very fluffy and friendly, and not likely to trigger trauma in any of them. And then they can spend the entire time arguing about it.
The kids may or may not enjoy it, Noir will definitely enjoy it (color! A happy ending!), Peter B will be going... “Was this always this much of an acid trip?”... Miguel if he’s there will find it a little simple, like a kids' theater production (Miguel’s brother is a VR animator, he’s seen lots of this stuff), and Ham will be “needs more dinosaurs.”
