Just a question for you all, given the wacky responses I've got to my ads in the newspaper so far...

[Poll #613854]

I swear, I'm about ready to chuck the whole 'get a roommate' thing, except I'd really like to not be throwing nearly half my take-home pay into rent.

Yiii. You've really gotten people thinking you didn't mind if they weren't a man, even if you were asking for a female in your ad? Sheesh. The married couple seem even sillier. Here's hoping for better luck.

I've had at least SIX men calling about the apartment. Both ads had "Female roommate" in them. How hard is that to understand?

And today I had the doozy.

man: "I'm calling about the apartment"
Me: "No, you're not. The ad said 'female roomate only'"
man: "You wouldn't count a couple, a man and his wife?"
Me: "No. Goodbye"
man: "B--!"
[I hung up on him]

My apartment is under 1000 sq feet, including both bathrooms AND the little closet the washer and dryer are in. There is no way three adults can live here long term without being VERY good friends. A married couple, with me?

No, no, and no.

*sigh* And men think they're smart enough to be allowed to run things.

It's the 'she doens't mean ME' quality that pisses me off.

And I think part of the problem is that I work nights and sleep evenings, so there is a delay in me getting back to people. I might have to give out my email next time round...

The vacancy rate is somwhere between 2% and 5%. But I've only had two people come to see the place -- I've also had more than a few who made appointments and never showed up.

Hahahah, if you really want to see the male "she doesn't mean ME" reflex in action, try running a personal ad.

I put up a personal ad stating that I was childfree, intending to remain so, looking for a younger man, and by the way, no Christians. (I have nothing against Christians, but I don't want to be in a relationship with one.)

The number of responses from older, Christian men looking to start families was amazing.

And men always complain that women don't respond when they respond to these ads and never write back to say no. Let me tell you why: because they don't hear it. "Sorry, you aren't what I'm looking for, as described in my ad" only gets you a long list of arguments as to why he's perfect for you anyway, despite the fact that he wants the use of body parts that I had surgery to make non-functional on purpose long before I ever met him.

Sorry to thread-jack, but I've been contemplating getting my tubes tied.

I'm only 26, but I'm pretty darn certain I don't want kids. (And if I change my mind, I'd rather adopt than create more children.)

Was it expensive? Did it take a long time to recover? Have you had any side effects?

From: [identity profile] ataniell93.livejournal.com

My insurance covered it as I have health problems, so I can't say as to the expense, but no, I haven't had any trouble that I wasn't having before.

I don't regret it.

I'd be laughing, except this is just pissing me off. It'll be funny AFTER I get a roommmate.

*laughs like a chimp*

So, so true. Scary!
