So, I got some money for Christmas, with the idea that I knew what kind of scanner/tablet/shredder I wanted, and should just go buy it instead of getting something Not Quite Right shipped to me...

Thus, I have about $100 to spend on a scanner or graphics tablet. Basically, I want something I can input drawings with, and one that is fairly idiotproof (and [livejournal.com profile] mrshamill can tell you, I've had some *interesting* problems with my computer).

Anyone got suggestions -- brand names, specific models, or just where to shop?

I have a Canon CanoScan LiDE70 flatbed scanner, and I really like it. It does 2400 x 4800 dpi, and can handle slightly larger than a sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper. I've had mine for over a year and still like it just as much as I did when I shopped around and bought it! It scans quickly, has lots of options and included software, and stores flat or upright for convenience. It's Mac or PC-friendly and works with USB and a power cable. I found it easy to install and use, much more straightforward than some of my printers and cameras!

I shopped at Staples for mine, but it's a very common brand and model. The price seems to fluctuate a bit between $70 and $80, but Staples is in there alongside Buy.com and other e-tailers.

I have a Visioneer One-Touch 7100 from Best Buy. It takes up to legalsized originals and is inexpensive and satisfactory. It was sixty bucks two years ago.

I have no idea, as I don't have a scanner. I do have a Wacom tablet, but I don't know that that helps?

Yes, actually. I'd love to see it and maybe figure out if that would be better for me than a scanner.

Or you could come with me when I go shopping for electronic gadgets and be my second opinion.

Okay, cool! Mine's at work right now but it may be migrating home to my NEW COMPUTER OMG soon anyway.

I hope I can help!

Let me know when/if it it comes home with you. We can hash out a meet-up too, since I know your schedule can get busy suddenly.

I'm still trying to get my CD-ROM drive fixed and/or replaced, so it might be a bit before I actually can buy anything.

Well, getting it home isn't a big deal, but I have no idea about my schedule, as per usual. >.<

I kind of figured your schedule was up in the air. Figure out a weekend that works for you, and I'll see you then.
