On Tuesday, [livejournal.com profile] saramwrap and [livejournal.com profile] internic picked me up and we hit the county Agricultural Fair. It was nifty enough, wandering around, looking at the local produce, art, and quilting -- and avoiding the cow pies.

It seemed to me that there were less entries this year in the animal competitions, since I'm used to all the animal barns being used, and there were several that were empty this year.

Anyway, at 8 pm, we saw what we'd really come for -- monster trucks! Well, that and a demolition derby.

The derby was rather fun, as it was a charity event in which local DJs were driving (along with two firefighters). The cars were total junkers, of course, and came apart within ten minutes of being knocked into each other. It was pretty amusing when the fire battalion captain figured out that if he drove in *reverse*, he could use his trunk as a battering ram and protect his engine -- he eliminated most of his competitors that way.

There was also a 'psycho jet quad', which was entirely too loud and made me sincerely regret forgetting my ear plugs.

Anyway, at last, what we came for creeped out of the trees. Megasaurus!

Megasaurus unfolding Megasaurus unfolding

Megasaurus roar Megasaurus roar

Megasaurus flame Megasaurus flame

Megasaurus reach Megasaurs reach

Megasaurus eating Megasaur eating

It was kind of fun, watching a robot dinosaur spit fire and eat a car. And I'm pretty sure it's one of those "only in America" kinds of entertainment.

This leads me to wonder, if we know that there are such things as pod races in the Star Wars universe, which are a combination of speed race and demolition derby... are there things analogous to monster truck shows? And would Qui-Gon Jinn go to one (he'd gone to pod races before Tatooine)? What about Obi-Wan? Just how tacky are Jedi allowed to be?

The possibilties for redneck activities on Tatooine seem endless. And the fic possibilities seem endless, too. :D

We decided to let that evening of fire and noise satisfy us for the year... but I'll go back next year!

Hee. I dunno - could be fun. I'm looking for some new interests for Cal to annoy Qui-Gon with. Trouble is, I can't quite see Monster Truck Racing on Naboo...

Frankly, I think it's more likely that Qui-Gon will annoy *Cal* with the monster truck show. Qui-Gon is just the sort to sit down with popcorn and a big bowl of *tacky*.

Hmmm. Now that's a thought. Maybe he would take Cal thinking he would *love* it and be very wrong about that ;oP

Well, I'm pretty sure it would have annoyed young Obi-Wan in TPM, in the "Master, you are being *tacky*!" way, but Old Ben would have gotten to the point of enjoying it on its own merits. It depends on how much Cal cares about looking elegant and cultured -- and if the noise would bother him.

Obi-Wan would only go to a monster speeder rally because Anakin disappeared (again).

Qui-Gon would go for the "cultural experience."

Qui-Gon is a big fat liar, and would go because he enjoys flame-throwing robot dinosaurs.

Anakin *would* go to watch monster trucks and talk to the racers and trick-riders.

Poor Obi-Wan would go because *someone* has to keep those two out of trouble.

It's tomorrow and Saturday (http://www.mcagfair.com/default.htm) as well. You just missed the monster trucks and the car-eating robot dinosaur.
