neotoma: Grommit knits, and so do I (GrommitKnitting)

I finished the Swans Tam. This is the matching hat for the Swans Jacket pattern I bought from
Yarns International at this year's MD Sheep and Wool.

Swans Tam Swans Tam

The finished Swans Tam. Knit in the round using Shetland 2000 White and Black yarns. Pattern from Yarns International, to match the Swans Jacket. Blocked using blocking wires over a dinner plate to acheive the right size and shape.

Knit on size 0, 2, and 4 circlulars and dpns. Because of the differences between colorwork and single-color knitting, I knit the colorwork with size 4s, the black with size 2, and the band with size 0. Using a provisional cast on, I was able to knit the band facing down to the tam, instead of having to graft after finishing.

I think the Swans Jacket will be a rather nice project, but I'm not going to work on it until the weather gets a cooler, and even then it will be a do-at-home project, since I doubt travelling with it would be anything other than frustrating.

Tomorrow, I submit my two enteries to the July show at the Strathmore though, and it will be interesting to see whether they sell.

Ooo, really nice!! So the jacket is up next once the weather cools down?

My mom is now up and knitting & doing well - I figured she would, since she's been crocheting since she was a kid.

Yes, the jacket will be a project for cooler weather, or a day when I'm bored and housebound, perhaps if I'm out of work again before autumn. Towards the end I'll have close to two pounds of wool in my lap, and I don't want to walk about in summer carrying *that*.

Good for your mom!

Mom is alternating between embroidering pillowcases for Xmas prezzies (lovely stuff she does), and the knitting. I fixed it so she could view her knitting tutorial CD on her PC, and once she got through the casting-on segment she was off and knitting.

Yeah a lapfull of wool in summer would be toasty. Erg.

The tam looks very Shakespearian.
