neotoma: Roadrunner fetish goes "beep beep!' (roadrunner)
([personal profile] neotoma May. 6th, 2007 03:55 pm)
I went up [livejournal.com profile] gblvr's house the night before, because she was driving and it was easier to go straight from her place than to circle around to my place and then go the festival. I wore my feather and fan stole, since I finished it Wednesday and the weather was a bit chilly out.

I bought some plants from Thorne Farms --Fairy Tale eggplant, Red Robin dwarf cherry tomato, Patio tomato, purple ruffled basil and spicy basil.

Then I bought an used boat shuttle and bobbins and a tiny scale from Misty Tower Fiber Creations, and ordered a new hat. She's going to make it to match my surcote... and is willing to try a skullcap if I can find a picture so I can go as a Time Lady for Halloween. (Anyone have a good screen cap of a Time Lord in a small skull cap, instead of the flying wing headdress?)

Kiparoo Farm had naturally green cotton from Peru to crochet myself another stole. I'm going to test the cotton using the ties for the hank and see if it darkens when washed in hot water, like Foxfibre cotton does.

Acorn takhli I got an acorn takhli and matching bowl, and a sley/threading hook from Susan's Fiber Shop. The takhli was just cute, and moved like a dream -- I can't wait to try it on some cotton; maybe I'll finally get a handle on supported spindles with this one.
Polymer top whorl Polymer top whorl

A polymer clay top whorl spindle with zoomorphic Celtic knotwork. Those are birds in that design. I got it from Handspun by Stepfania also with 8 oz of California Varigated Mutant roving with mylar -- dyed with indigo. Hopefully it will be enough to crochet the Lily Chin Suspended in Space stole (using Hematite beads) that I've been stuck on because I wasn't satisfied with the colors available.
I found 6-hole cards for tablet weaving at Carolina Homespun. Of course I bought them since I had never actually seen them in the flesh before. I should be able to make circular patterns with the cards. I'm looking for a small rigid-heddle loom so that I can take the heddle out and use it make the cardweaving portable; it'll be a lot easier to do demonstrations if I don't have to spend 30 minutes doing set up, and will save space at home, too. I'm thinking maybe a Harrisville Designs Easy Weaver or the like.
Small Cherry Bag Pattern I bought a the Cherry Blossom Bag pattern from Noni as a kit from Frivolous Fibers -- I plan to make it for my niece's 11th birthday.

Another Noni pattern, it's so adorkable I just had to have it!

At the end of the day, right as we were walking out, we saw that the Bee Folks were there. I bought a jar of Radish honey (tastes like candy corn!), a jar of MeadowMaple (taste like marshmallows), and a bag of honey hard candy. I'm glad that they're coming to MSWF, because I love their honeys, and it's a lot easier to go to MSWF than to the Maryland Renfest to get their product. I didn't buy more Killer Bee or Buckwheat honey, though I love dark honeys; I still have enough left for a while, and I can always order it online.

Also, glbvr bought two mini-cones of Euroflax Paris (2-ply laceweight) in eggplant for me to make her a stole as well.

So now I'm taking the day off and going to be lazy lazy. I might order a pizza later, I'm feeling so lazy...

Oooooh. Yarnlust.

There's a new yarn store in town, and they sell roving and other spinning supplies. MMmmm. Today's my day off. Mebbe I should stop by for a visit.....

No I didn't. But I did make up a weekly "craft" schedule, and put spinning on the list. :D

I spend too much time knitting anyway....
