Farmer's Market -- 03 October 2020 (Strawflower Day, 12th of Grape Harvest, Year 229)

A loaf of country white, white cheddar kettle corn, brown sugar kettle corn, chicken borek, beef borek, vinegar beets, baba ganoush, pita bread, a half-gallon of chocolate milk, a pint of whole milk, yellow onions, Artlet apples, three garlic bulbs, 3 Buffalo Chicken handpies, 3 Vegetarian pizza handpies, molasses ginger squares, chocolate salty squares, buttermilk cake, a caramel apple cookie stack, and a traditional chocolate chip cookie stack.

I talked briefly with one of the farmers and this year's pear harvest was extremely low (like, two cases brought to my local market because that was all they had); it's probably already over for my area because of a frost earlier in the year killing the pears on the branch. We also didn't get anything in the way of apricots this year as we had a frost the week they were blooming. I'm hoping we at least get persimmons; one of the other farmers said she has actual American persimmons, which I think I've seen maybe once before at a market.

The orchard we go to has lost their entire peach crop for three years in a row, freeze right at blossom set. I'm beginning to think climate change means we're too far north for peaches any more.

I think we may have lost the apricots locally. This is the second year a frost killed them blooming. Which is really unfortunate, because I love the local apricots.
