ipleasance and A* for brunch. Afterward we went Labyrinth as I wanted to get at least one jigsaw puzzle for the jigsaw puzzle party I'm hoping to host sometime in the next few weeks.
I now have a jigsaw puzzle of art from the NASA/JPL Visions of the Future retrofuturism poster project -- the Visit Mars poster. The shop also had The Grand Tour and Kepler 16b. I also picked up the Pieter Van Den Keere World Map 1611 puzzle.
They also had three variants of the Gradient jigsaw puzzle, several gorgeous Ravensburger puzzles including the Gold Krypt, and a pretty 500-piece landscape of cherry trees against a backdrop of lake and mountains out for people to assemble. We did the easy bits -- the edges, the golden lakeshore, some of the background trees and mountains, but left the mass of pink petals for the next people to come by and get sucked into the puzzle vortex. And sadly, they didn't have any of the mass-produced Bafflers in stock; I'm going to have to order one online if I want one.
Also, there turns out there is a little book store right next door now, so we browsed for a good bit -- A* took home the hard copy of Rejected Princesses -- which was a nice respite given how hot it was out.
Then we walked up the street and looked at the vendors outside Eastern Market, but walked back down and had gelato at Pitango. They had a halvah-and-pistachio gelato that was interesting, but too heavily weighted toward sesame over pistachio for my taste, so I had cream and hazelnut before we all headed home.
Now I just have to hear back from the contracting agency about when my background check is complete and when they want me to start work...
