Second Thursday Contradance in Silver Spring

Hey local friends!

Carpe Diem! Arts and the Washington Revels are sponsoring contradance on the second Thursday of the month at the Silver Spring Civic Building (1 Veterans Place, Silver Spring MD).

The first dance will be tomorrow, with lessons at 7pm for beginners, and the main dance starting at 7:30pm. The entrance fee is $10, first time free. This is a 10-minute walk from the Silver Spring Metro -- across from the Silver Spring Regal Majestic, if you've ever been there. I'm planning on going, as long as the weather remains nice.

Oooh. I kind of doubt I can make it tomorrow, but if they do one next month I'm there.

Gaaaah - we will be literally in the same building tomorrow night, taking the Drug & Alcohol class test for our MD driver's licenses! I'll check with ell if she'd be interested in going, provided we get out of the testingthingy in time to take the beginner lesson...

Regardless, it's literally across the street form where we live so we will probably make it some other time or meet up after one?

I live on the other side of the Silver Spring Metro, so we are basically neighbors!

Hopefully I'll be awake enough to actually get there tomorrow, as my sleep schedule is pretty off kilter nowadays.

There's also a monthly community sing on January 21 if that's something that appeals to you.

The Tem/Ell OTP has decided that since ell's knee injury would make dancing not fun, we will skip tomorrow's dance and go do some low-impact swimming instead... but if they have another one next month (at which point I hope the ell is healed and back to ding aikido at all hours of the day), I will be happy to learn some dancing and join you!

The Community Sing is on the same day as the Women's March so I suspect I won't have time to make soup and show up with my vocal cords intact... pity though, this sounds like fun!

Also, thank you for these little hints and tips - so wonderful to be welcomed in one's strange new home! :)

Let me know if you want to be added to my movie-goer's mailings. There are a couple of local cinemas that do vintage and small-release movies, and I generally organize an outing every month or so.

Yesplease! Between that, the Regal right next door, and the NOAA nerd group, I will finally catch up on my moviegoing :D

I'm just glad there is now a location that is Metro accessible, instead of at Cabin John.

Some friends of mine are there, but I am not, as my leg is not in great shape. But if this becomes a regular thing, I will hope to be able to come sometimes in the future!
