I get to go in today and see if my workplace is going to be open for the foreseeable future. Hopefully, the funding was already disbursed and we just keep going as normal, but I have no idea if that's what will happen.

well, we service several multi-year longitudinal medical research contracts, so the money was set side in 2010 or something, so we're safe for another year. Maybe.

Basically, every contract reported that they were still open and thus we were still open, but I have no idea for how long that will actually be the case.

We have already lost one person and their position to the budget sequester, so I'm side-eying ever reassurance.

Ah. That makes sense. I work on-site so it's basically a lock-out, and I'm not allowed telework. It's still a little unlcear.

The sequester is the sleeping beast. The immediate effects have only been seriously aggravating. It's really going to hit us in terms of jobs in 2014/2015.

The sequester is a nasty piece of shit. I was reading a blog today that got me to a news article about how the FBI isn't opening cases they should really be investigating in the southwest because they don't have money for gas, and thus agents can't afford to drive out to talk to witnesses.

OMFG! WTF?!

I'll have to see if I can find that article, because it was a really appalling bit of information.

Frustratingly, I can't complain to my congress rep, because he's a Democrat, and one of the liberal ones, so he was already against this foolish grandstanding.
