Did not get a laptop -- did get a functioning keyboard...

A friend took me to get a new keyboard ( the 'e', 'd' and 'c' keys died this week -- it's nearly impossible to type coherent sentences without them!), a new printer, and a notebook computer.

I got the keyboard (a floppy one-- it's washable!), and a new printer/scanner that was on clearance, but the notebooks that were in my price and size range (I need a full keyboard, not a less-than-10" one, to type comfortably) were sold out or something.

So I'm back to having a fully functional computer, but not having an additional portable backup computer...

Oh well, I can wait another few months.

I've also decided to close LJ posts to commenting. I don't want Facebook in my life, and this latest shenanigan was enough to drive me to close comments on my LJ posts. Oh well...

I'm sorry that you didn't find your laptop, but the washable keyboard sounds neat!

I don't blame you for closing comments. This last LJ screwup was enough to move me to Dreamwidth, at least partially. I'll have to decide if I'm going to close comments on LJ later.

Washable keyboards are great. For one thing, you don't have to worry about spilling anything on them.

I don't think it's a screwup, sadly. I think it's an attempt to pull Facebook's tricks on LJ's audience, and I'm seriously not amused.

You're probably right, and that bothers me because I want NOTHING to do with Facebook. It has never seemed to be anything but dangerous to me.

Oh LJ...sigh. I'm going to try and start using DW a little more...but I'm still pretty heavily into Piper-Trickster/Flash Rogues fandom and there's no comm for them over here. I did ask at Boostle, and had Poisonivory set one up, but noone's posted yet.

The facebook thing is the worst LJ has come up with yet....and there's rumors about it being a legal deal with Facebook...so it's less likely they'll backpedal, if true.

I have thought about getting a Facebook, simply to keep up with my family, but I sure as *hell* don't want to link my online fannish life with my RL person. Especially not with Facebook's notoriously lax privacy policy.

Oh, the privacy problem is a big part of the whole thing. Enable it and your facebook with your real name on it gets listed on your LJ profile....along with all the possibilites of a crossposted comment getting back to someone you seriously didn't want to know about it.

It's so frustrating -- I'm glad I have DW as an alternative, but LJ is just trying to mess with us at this point, it seems like.

The latest theory is money, there was an article someone turned up over on the newspost, about LJ Russia merging/partially buying(it was autotranslated) with facebook.

Which means if there's a legal contract, they're less likely to backpedal on this, sigh.

Its...the same problem we have every time LJ messes up, though. DW's better than nothing, but there's not really any...here, here yet, and so nobody really works to build new comms and friendslists and goes back to LJ because that's where all the action is.

It's one of those things that make you wonder about LJ. Considering in their backpedalling update to the newspost, they say they wouldn't want to publish LiveJournal usernames or FL comments to Facebook or Twitter either.
