On the other hand, he is as much a dick as any other angel we've met, so I'm totally justified in writing him that way too. He's very gentle about it, but he's totally condescending to Dean -- he dismisses everything that Dean says on the basis of 'this is destiny'.
Seriously, the angels don't believe in free will, but that's because *they* don't (or aren't) supposed to have it. They actively work to subvert any exertion of free will Sam and Dean make. I hope the season ends with God showing up and giving all his older children a good spanking or something, because I don't know if I want to suffer through 5 years of such a bleak world without some chance of a better life at the end.
And Cas calling Sam his friend was very sweet, as was the way Sam kept finding Cas falling over and trying to help him. The

Also at this point, I'm pretty sure neither of boys will want to have kids, even if they ever have the opportunity; they'd rather the bloodline die with them.
