The [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest is starting again, with prompts wanted from now until March 3rd. Since the prompts should focus on characters written as LGBT and dealing with LGBT issues, I'm wondering how many comic-fandom prompts I can come up with.

At the moment I've come up with prompts for:

  • a JSA story with Obsidian, dealing with coming out to his dad as gay while coming out to his boyfriend as a superhero,

  • a JSA story about how times have changed -- gay culture over the years from the viewpoint of Sand (written as bi?),

  • a Flash story with how Piper came out to the Rogues, and how it made him decided they were a better family than his parents,

  • a Flash story about how Piper and his villainous boyfriend Fury -- how did they relate to the gay community, because supervillains all sorts of bad press when you are working for gay rights?

  • an Xmen story about Anole -- how hard is dating when you are green and scaly and gay,

  • a Marvel story about a LGBT group for teen superheroes,

  • a Marvel 1602 story about Jean/John Grey; the cross-dressing wasn't merely a disguise.

I think that these are all really great and interesting story ideas. They are all very relevant and interesting.

The first could be really, really, cool since Allen Scott isn't written as bad, but comes off as so old fashioned and conservative that his reaction might not have been terrible but he probably wouldn't have been perfectly alright with it. I'd love to see that addressed in fanfic.

Also the Fury/Piper story would be just as interesting with the dynamics of how their images could be warped in the press in a way that would be very detramental to any good press that the LGBT community was working on.

Thanks for sharing your ideas, they really are enough to get anyone thinking. :)

Alan Scott is probably the most conservative of the JSA, and I'm pretty sure he's deeply uncomfortable with Todd coming out, but too well-mannered to say that much about it. Of course, he's deeply uncomfortable with just about everything about Todd, since they only met once Todd was an adult, and he feels that he's failed his son.

I really want another Fury/Piper story, I just don't want to have to be the one to write it... young!Piper is such a self-centered, selfish idjit.

and he feels that he's failed his son.

That might be an interesting angle to take. He could blame himself, not understanding that sexuality is just how you are, and assuming it's because his son didn't have a proper male rolemodel.

I really want another Fury/Piper story, I just don't want to have to be the one to write it...

Oh, I think every author out there knows that feeling, but if you do write it I know it will turn out beautifully! :)

How about a JSA story where Cyclone and Stargirl discover a RPF sapphic fic on the internet and overreact? :)

If one of them is written as LGBT, I suppose it could work.

Hmmmm... could offer a JSA/Outsiders prompt, about how Anissa finds herself resenting her younger sister since Jennifer's the 'good child' -- the one who got into the JSA, the one who hasn't skirted the dark side of the street, the one isn't a lesbian.

Ultimate X Men, how that version of Piotr Rasputin dealt with Kitty Pryde's crush on him?

I don't know Ult-X that well. Why don't you submit it -- surely there are other Ult-X fans on the comm.

Oh, I don't do ficathons or exchanges, and you usually can't offer a prompt unless you're willing to write one. Just throwing the idea out there since you were brainstorming.

The fest had over 800 prompts last year, and you specifically don't have to agree to write (http://community.livejournal.com/lgbtfest/45689.html?thread=702329#t702329) if you want to submit prompts.

Really, I want more prompts for JSA and Piper/Trickster than *mine*... because I'd like to write someone else's prompt.

I totally wante the Obsidian and Anole stories, and these are characters you've only mentioned. I *must* see the LGBT teen superhero support group. :)

Well, I'm only coming up with prompts right now. Hopefully, someone will come up with one I can write as well [hint hint].

As to Obsidian, this is NOT how you want your boyfriend to find out you used to be a superhero... (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/1447793.html)

I've also put in a prompt for Hawkman and Hawkgirl -- sure they've reincarnated and reunited hundreds of times across the centuries, but he was not always a man nor she a woman.

I hope someone takes that prompt and runs with it, because you can have gays, lesbians, transgender, or a combo with THAT.
