Okay, I've been listening to the debate tonight -- not because it will change my vote, but because I want to hear the candidates speak for themselves, in complete paragraphs, because sound bites are distortions at the best.
But McCain just said 'the pro-abortion movement'. Multiple times!
The more he speaks, the more I *loathe* him.

Once upon a time, John McCain was the sort of politician that you really wanted to root for, even if you didn't agree with him. You really did feel that he was someone who was at least *mostly* honest and who had standards that he wouldn't violate. I'd figured out by the end of last year that I really didn't like any of his policies, and I felt that he had a better chance of winning that most of the other Republican candidates, which was the main reason I didn't join most of my family in voting for him in the primary. (We live in Michigan, where the Democratic primary was a joke.) But once it became clear that he was going to be the Republican nominee, I seriously thought, "As much as I want a Democrat in office, at least I can figure I'll be okay with the outcome. It won't be too bad." Since then, my opinion of McCain has slid almost steadily downhill and is working its way below sea level.
As of a few weeks ago, my moderate-to-liberal mother was still undecided in this election. I was stunned to find that out. I think she's finally decided to go with Obama, but she's still not real pleased about it. I don't think he's the second coming - he *is* still a politician - but he's worlds better than McCain, both personally and on the issues. And I didn't mean to ramble this much. Sorry.
