When I was on my trip last week (lightning trip to my sister's for the Fourth) my hanging basket pole arrived. [livejournal.com profile] twistedchick who was watering my poor plants for me put inside. I assembled it yesterday, much to the bemusement of [livejournal.com profile] gblvr, who picked me up at the airport, wandered around the Inner Harbor much too early with me (the Barnes and Noble there is *very* steampunk), diverted to Ikea and then A Tangled Skein (more yarn! more yarn! we found the Jojoland motherload! and we each got a 'frequent buyer' card), before hitting the co-op and arriving at my place.

So, when I came home today, I got absolutely filthy putting together my topsy-turvy hanging planters and hanging them.

But

Four-hanger pole, loaded

There are two tomato plants each in two of the planters, and two pepper plants in the third. You're supposed to be able to grow flowers and other vegetables in them too, but I like tomatoes, and it's more of an experiment than anything. My mom asked wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy tomatoes at the market, but that's not really the point. Tomatoes are the product, the *point* is to have something to care for, and tomatoes are a heck of a lot cheaper than a dog -- and allowed under my apartment rules, where pets aren't.

And then I took a shower, because really, absolutely filthy!

They look nice.... Did you decide whether or not you need bricks? I have a pile in my backyard that isn't going to be used if you want some.

I think bricks might be useful, yes.

How did that lemon verbeena work out? Should I send home some catnip next time?

It's winter where you are, right? I'd want to steal tomatoes in winter too...

This looks interesting, I hope you post more pictures when they are grown up a bit! Home-grown tomatoes (and peppers) taste infinitely better than anything you can buy.

Well, already the tomatoes are turning their leaves over and getting orientated to their new upside-down status.

The peppers got rather bruised as I put them in -- you're suppose to use smaller bedding plants, but it took so long for the planters and pole to all arrive that they grew a lot. Their leaves are kind of drooping, but I watered them again, and hopefully they'll figure things out.

Tomatoes are particularly fun to watch grow I think. Plus, cute!
