I'm making an Alligator Scarf for my older nephew for Christmas.

The yarn isn't as soft as I like for something that is advertised as 'merino'. Hopefully, it will soften after I wash it; if not, I can spritz it with some leave-in hair conditioner.

The pattern is easy enough, but I wish they had charts as well as written directions, because I understand charts so much better.

If this winds up as easy as I think it will, I am totally making one for myself, out of worstedweight yarn instead of sportweight. I saw some Malabrigo in Dusty Olive today that would make a very convincing gator!

There is also a new Baby Gator pattern that is tempting, but I think the littler nephew would chew on the scarf more than wear it...

That's great! It gave me an idea for a dragon shawl...with the head drooping over the wearer's shoulder, the wings to fasten it around her neck, and the tail drooping down the back (or the other shoulder). And maybe a little puff of chiffon fire appliqued on.
