August Socks, Week 1 August Socks, Week 1
A pair of socks from Regia 4 Fadig Jacquard, color 5180 (black, dark grey, light grey, rust, dusty lavendar) using the Chevron pattern from page 70 of Sensational Knitted Socks.

I cast on with size 1 needles and am currently using 000 needles. I'll start the heel about six inches down. The chevron pattern is attractive on the needles, but how it looks when I'm actually wearing the sock is open to debate.

The socks are a nice on-the-bus project, the same way [livejournal.com profile] gblvr's stole was. They pack well, don't cover my lap (very important on buses where the A/C isn't working), and are short enough that I can finish the row easily when my stop comes up.

Anyone have suggestions for an image host as an alternate to LJ Scrapbook? I'm looking to back-up as much as possible elsewhere.

I transferred my photos to Flickr from Yahoo, when Yahoo quit hosting. I'm happy so far.

I also invested in an external hard drive to keep my manuscripts and photos safe, then realized that if there were a reason we had to flee the house I would choose to save the cats before I saved the hard drive. So, I use mozy.com to back up my things, now. It's free up to 2GBs and I only use it for my writing stuff, family photos and scans of important documents like our deed, marriage license, passports...

knitting wool socks is a seasonless sport.

wearing wool socks, on the other hand...

Well, it's not really fun when it's 95 degrees out with 100% humidity -- melting into a puddle of organophosphates wasn't really what I wanted to do today.

But it's cooler inside, so I've worked on the gauge swatch for the Alligator Scarf -- now I just have to decide whether I want to add completely not-in-the-pattern selvedge stitches...

(switching to the journal with the knitting icons)

I don't generally knit outside, so the weather isn't so much an issue. ;)

I think socks are great *portable* knitting. Easy enough to stuff a project in your purse and take anywhere. I toted a sock project all over North Dakota this past week.
