[livejournal.com profile] violet_quill asked Is posting a link to prohibited content that is posted elsewhere going to receive the same punishment as it would if the prohibited content were posted on LiveJournal servers?

The answer she received is mindboggling. And it seems to be backed up because [livejournal.com profile] rydra_wong asked a similar question and received an equally bizarre answer. Is LJ really going to suspend people for linking to adult content in their livejournals? Because wow, that's INSANE.

I'm so glad that I have back-ups at InsaneJournal and GreatestJournal. I should look into getting a JournalFen account -- do I need to pay for it?

I suggest any of you who have anything that might be considered adult (art, fic, or even a recs list!), get a backup journal. Use Semagic to crosspost and make sure you have an archived copy of your LJ -- even though this is mostly hitting the HP fandom now, it could spread. And it's INSANITY!

And just so you know, I'm taking down [livejournal.com profile] theclockworkdog this weekend and moving it to either IJ or GJ or possibly both. I don't need hassles over my original fiction and comics!

It really is extraordinary. And I think they've lost sight of the fact they are dealing with fans, not a bunch of law-breaking rabid dogs.

Oh, we're quite rabid, now. They seem to have missed how freaking *organized* fandom can be, when we want something. We might fight among each other and eat our own young on a regular basis, but we will ban together when we perceive we're being attacked.

I wish to god/ess/es that they would consolidate all of this shit into an LJ Fandom FAQ. Instead of spreading it out in dribs and drabs in comments and private emails, hither and yon.

But that would be good customer service, and they can't have that.

Seriously, there is either a power struggle going on, the worst management *ever* or they're deliberately being vague so they can banhammer whomever they feel like.

Do let me know if you find something like Semagic that works for Mac; AFAIK it's only for PC.

Try [livejournal.com profile] antennapedia tools (http://antennapedia.livejournal.com/266462.html) as she's made written a new lj migration tool. You could also post in your own journal asking for advice, since I'm really not set up to know what Mac tools there are and if they work...

okay, I've been trying to make these back-ups, ie, I've downloaded several of the suggested programmes but it doesn't seem to work. I have to ask what is this "semagic"? Is it another programme I have to download?
