1. He's a Senator in the Old Republic, and married to the Queen of Alderaan. Does he have any title of his own, such as Prince Consort? Or do the Alderaani not give titles to spouses of their royalty?

2. Once Leia becomes Senator in the Imperial Triology, what is his position and title? Does he have an Imperial title that does not come from his status as an Alderaani aristocrat?

2. Did anyone else notice that his costume, the one with the cool diagonal cape, is basically an Imperial officers uniform underneath the cape? Is anyone else mildly freaked out by this?

Those are good questions, but I have no answers for you. I think he's called a Prince, but I'm not sure. You might want to check out [livejournal.com profile] bail_lovers, I'm sure they could help you.

As for the last, you're absolutely right. Palpatine stole his clothes to outfit the Imperial officers. XD

Also, the Bail Organa Character Profile (http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/bailorgana/index.html) on Starwars.com Databank calls him the Viceroy of Alderaan. The movie script calls his wife the Queen of Alderaan, but the databank info suggests he had to fight for his "ascendancy" as the Viceroy.

On the EU info, it also calls his wife the Minister of Education. He's also named the First Chairman of Alderaan.

Trying to figure out titles in Lucasverse makes my head hurt.

Does Lucas just not *care* what those titles mean? Viceroy is the person who rules a country in place of the monarch, like there was a Viceroy of Brazil when it was a Portuguese colony. You don't have a Viceroy of a place where there is a Queen.

EU obviously contradicts canon from the movies and can be discarded.

That's my impression. I think he just assigns people titles at random. I'm obviously going with movie canon, which means that his wife was the Queen of Alderaan, and I'm thinking he could be the Prince Consort. Movie canon supports this theory because Captain Antilles calls him "Your Highness."

EU makes the baby Jedi twins cry. Literally.

I think alderaan is setup as a Matriach society- The Queen rules, with her husband as an Consort, she has a daughter,The Princess-Royal, who then rules. This explains why Bail says that he and his wife has been looking to adopt a little girl.

I think the assumption is that Leia becomes asenator the same way Prince Charles became the Duke of Cornwall and Prince of Wales- a responisiblity that would have prepared her for being Queen, had Alderaan survived.

Yes, I did notice that about the costume. One wonders if Palpy picked it up to lend credence to his Empire.

I'm something of an expert on Bail Organa, and I can testify that the official information on Bail and on Alderaan has always been sketchy and contradictory. So if you're asking for fic purposes, I say you have full license to use as much or as little of "canon" as you want!

For a long time, the SW Encyclopedias listed him as "Viceroy and First Chair of Alderaan." Your guess is as good as mine! A comic book waaaaay back in the day (that is, original trilogy) said that a young Obi-Wan rescued Bail's ship from a pirate attack. I believe it was Timothy Zahn's trilogy that had the backstory about the Jedi Jorus Cbaoth negotiating the House of Organa's ascendency. The sw.com databank for AotC listed Bail's as-yet-unnamed wife as the Minister of Education. It wasn't until RotS that she became "Queen Breha." Before AotC, there had never been any reference anywhere to Bail having a wife -- which is why I, quite naturally, assumed he was gay. :) The script for the Star Wars radio play, written by Brian Daley, lists Leia's father's name as "Prestor Organa," though that name was never actually used in the dialogue. Consequently, the SW Encyclopedia lists his name as "Bail Prestor Organa."

On the other hand, the long-standing canon has been that Bail is one of the original founders of the Rebel Alliance, along with Mon Mothma of Chandrilla and Garm Bel Iblis of Corellia. This storyline has been picked up in enough sources that I think you can safely consider it "canon." There was a scene filmed of Bail, Mon Mothma, Padme, and others, meeting in Bail's office and discussing what would clearly become the Alliance. The scene was cut from the movie, but Rick McCallum has confirmed that it will be on the DVD.

The only way that makes sense, is if Viceroy is an *Imperial* title, and he's been placed by the Empire to displace the native Alderaani royalty (ie his wife). I suppose I could write it that way, but if Palpatine thought Bail Organa was loyal to *him*, he was more deluded than I thought he was.

From: [identity profile] jedirita.livejournal.com

In my version, Viceroy is an official title only, granted to the House of Organa for services rendered in the past.

On the other hand, the implication is that Alderaan managed to pretend they were loyal Imperials at the same time that they were supportive of the nascent Rebel Alliance.

As I said, do whatever makes sense to you! Canon is far too vague on this subject. All I know is: Bail Organa trained Leia to be the Bad Ass that she is. That ought to fuel those bunnies!

An official title of the Empire? Because really, what a viceroy *is* makes it a weird title for a planet that has a ruling Queen.

Yes, I think I'll do whatever the heck I like. I think the best thing might be that Bail becomes Viceroy under the authority of and *for* Empire Palpatine, after his wife dies. Maybe even Viceroy and Regent -- holding place for Leia until Palpatine allows her to be formally invested as Queen of Alderaan, which Palpatine is delaying because it gives him more power to have Alderaan without a Queen Regnant.

Um, I can't answer any of the queries, but the first line totally sounded like a sitcom.

He's a Senator in the Old Republic, and she's the Queen of Alderaan. What wacky hijinks will ensue when daughter Leia brings home her new dastardly boyfriend, Han?
