I went to see Sky High yesterday. And it was utter utter crackfic! Really, there isn't any other way to explain it.

You have Will Stronghold, son of the two most famous superheroes on Earth, and the story of his first year in high school. Unfortunately for Will, he hasn't developed any powers yet, and in fact might never do so. But he's the son and grandson of famous heroes, so off he goes to Sky High, a school for superpowered teenagers.

When the film gets to the school, it turns into an 80's montage, in the most hilarious way, and the cast playing the teachers features Bruce Campbell, Lynda Carter, Dave Foley, and Kevin McDonald, all of whom are delightful. The little musical cues that playas Will goes through school -- especially when he's crushing on Senior Class President Gwen Grayson -- are all '80s pop songs which give the impression that this is a Molly Ringwald movie, but they work so well.

The villian of the piece isn't identifiable from the first, but it's not hard to figure out if you pay attention. The plot itself is extremely fluffy and sweet, and the actors playing the kids are believable as teenagers, if not as *14* year olds.

It's was well worth going to see.

And I got to see the Goblet of Fire trailer (I like the Durmstrang boys, oddly enough) and the Chronicles of Narnia trailer (anyone else gleeful that Aslan will be voiced by Liam Neeson?), so I was quite happy.

I like the Durmstrang boys too. Oh boy do I like the Durmstrang boys.

*jumps up and down and waves hand in the air*

I do want to see Sky High, too! It looks silly and fun.

I keep thinking "Geez, Liam Neeson has finally found a role that allows him to die nobly and yet still get to be in the rest of the movie!"

And yes, Sky High is very silly and fun.

As opposed to dying not-nobly and then being in the rest of the movie? (Batman Begins, anyone?) Yeah, yeah, he didn't die, but... hey, if we go by his 'you left me to die' thing...

And worth it, I take it? ^_^

Oh, Sky High was very worth it. The way they play with super hero *and* teen movie cliches is just delicious.

Yes, isn't it perfect! Liam Neeson has a whole bunch of Narnia movies to look forward to if all goes well. Gives new meaning to "the Force is with you", don't it? :D The Trailer for Narnia gave me goosebumps.

Oh god, don't even get me started on Neeson getting to play the Jesus figure in the enormous allegory that is Narnia...

*Grin* So I shouldn't tell you my brain is already spinning the oddest cross-universe scenarios?

Qui-Gon (looking around at the Wood Between the Worlds): Well, this is rather pleasant.

Aslan: Back again, are you?

Qui-Gon: I had a bit of an accident, Sir.

Aslan (points at one of the ponds): Take that pool and mind the gap!

>D

Will Qui-Gon be turned back into the tiny version of himself, the way adult characters so often do in Narnia?

::giggling at the thought of Master Obi-Wan dealing with Anakin and wee!Qui-Gon::

From: [identity profile] murasaki99.livejournal.com

Hee! That would be Too Much Fun! Qui-Gon's revenge, as it were. Poor Obi-Wan. But he couldn't send wee!Qui off to Count Dooku, now could he? XD

Chibi Qui and Anakin teaming up... what a scary thought! Perhaps in that AU they defeat Palpy purely by accident while trying to have fun.

From: [identity profile] neotoma.livejournal.com

That would be Too Much Fun!

Wouldn't that just?

wee!Qui-Gon: What's this? What's this? Omigod, SHINY! [zips off]
Anakin: Shiny? SHINY! [zips after him]
Obi-Wan: OMGWTFPOLARBEAR! [passes out from the stress]

From: [identity profile] murasaki99.livejournal.com

Whee!!

Hee-hee! I've got to illustrate that scene! All the little 'uns dashing about and poor, stressed Obi-Wan trying to preserve their little necks from harm. (And they would probably be the last to get hurt in any escapade.)

And it could be worse... teh shiny could've been the double-vibrobladed pike held by an Imperial Royal Guard. XD

wee!Qui-Gon: More shiny!
Anakin: Want one too!
Royal Guard: (as he is overwhelmed by chibis) Gaaaa!
Palpy: Uh-oh... (tries to hide shiny lightsaber)
Obi-Wan: Gleep!

Re: Whee!!

Well, it really depends if Anakin is still a kid, or a teenager. If he's a kid, Obi-Wan will soon wonder if he can enact the Ransom of Red Cheif, times two. If he's a teen, Anakin will bounce between "I must be responsible" and "OMG! Shiny FUN!"

And now I'm imagining wee!Qui-Gon insisting he doesn't need a haircut, he's already been a padawan, no need to make him look like a hedgehog...

Re: Whee!!

Ok, I've gone and done it. Just posted to my LJ (http://www.livejournal.com/users/murasaki99/56268.html#cutid1) the cartoon. Feel free to take the bunny and run. >D

I'm psychic! I didn't give Qui a haircut - altho he does have a padawan braid. I figure Anakin is about the same age, they're much more deadly a duo that way.

The Ransom of Red Chief indeed!

I am hugely into the idea of Neeson doing the voice of Aslan. Mind, I am hugely into Neeson doing anything, so I'm perhaps not the most impartial of judges. I really am looking forward to seeing that movie. It would be nice if they'd release a movie each Christmas - it became a beloved family ritual for us to go and see the new LOTR movie just before Christmas each year they came out. It would be nice to do similar.

ugh

I might have to go see the movie just for the trailers!

Re: ugh

You might not get the same trailers, but you'll probably get good ones.

I wanted to go see Sky High this weekend while visiting my teenaged daughters. Alas, they didn't want to see it (or maybe just one of them. don't remember now). Ended up at March of the Penguins, oddly enough.

But now I *really* want to go see!

From: [identity profile] neotoma.livejournal.com

I haeen't seen March of the Penguins yet. And I want to! Movie-Buddy vetoed it-- but then brought over The Seven Samurai, so that was okay.

From: [identity profile] wyomingnot.livejournal.com

March of the Penguins was good. A few too many close-ups of dead baby penguins, but at least there wasn't any blood when the ... oh, wait. Sorry. Spoilers. ;)

*was flabbergasted at the trailers, man*

Holy God. The Durmstrang kids look absolutely faaaaantastic, and like. I spent entirety of the Narnia trailer alternately squealing and poking my designated Movie-Buddy, my sister, in the arm and being like HE'S DOING THE VOICE! HE'S DOING THE VOICE! HE'S DOING THE VOICE OF JEEEEEEEEEEESUS!

And March of the Penguins is sorta depressing in its way -- sure, adorably cute penguins, but there's also a some stuff on Nature, Red in Tooth and Claw that's more than a wee bit disturbing.

Then again, I'm the kid who always had to hide her face when the cheetah got the gazelle on the nature shows, so I'm biased.

Re: *was flabbergasted at the trailers, man*

I'm just scared what sort of fic is going to come out of the Narnia movie.

I always identified with the cheetah, myself.
