I'm really screwing up this job-hunting thing. I've sent out resumes, and checked the want ads, but I haven't had so much as a nibble. Yesterday, I even submitted to two jobs at the previous company, but I get the feeling I flubbed that *and* the follow-up call this morning.

I just want to crawl into bed and sleep until Saturday... I don't suppose that's possible, is it?

My sympathies! I'm also looking for a new job. It's difficult to land a new job just via the want ads. I've had good luck in the past finding a new job via temp agencies or by working with a recruiter. This time, I plan to temp for a couple of months while I check out my long term options. I leapt into my last job without really checking out the company and it turned out to be pretty much of a disaster.

I'm sorry to hear this, but maybe it wasn't soooo bad at all?
I wish you good luck with your search!

It is. Days like that are called "mental health days." :-) I'm sorry to hear the job hunt is not panning out with decent opportunities. Take a couple days to simply relax and you'll be much fresher to start up again. Your bookshelf is calling you. And your knitting needles. *hugs*

Actually, it was my DVD collection -- Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush in the Curse of the Silly Hats (http://imdb.com/title/tt0119683/) -- but I'm feeling a little better.

Still unhappy that I've probably screwed up the opportunity to work within walking distance, but I can probably go into the actual job tonight instead of calling in sick.

I've had uneven luck with temp agencies. They tend to be very stingy with pay, and they get me jobs that I'm not suited for -- document control at a pharmecuetical company was AWFUL, especially since it was advertised as a Quality Control lab job -- but they do occassionally pay off.

I just wish it didn't take a month and a half and daily phone calls to push them into getting me an appropriate job.

Of course, I also was working on finishing a pair of wool socks... just in time for the 70 degree weather.

Oh well, I'll take some photos when they're done and tuck them away in the drawer.

Oh yes, th epay for temp jobs is quite low, but it's still better than retail and it's enough to just squeak by on the bills until something decent and permanent comes along. What I like about them is that you get to see the inside of a few different organizations before you commit to working for them. When you take a permanent job based only on an interview, you take your chances... as I found out to my great dismay with my last job.
