Just finished watching the season 3 episode of Doctor Who Gridlock. Hee!
So very very fun.
I think someone in the costume department is very puckish, because the couple in the teaser were dressed as American Gothic, and you just don't do that unless you want to show off.
Thomas Kincade Brannigan was played by Ardal O'Hanlon, which was why his voice was bugging me so much -- the local PBS station used to play My Hero, and he's rather distinctive in how he talks. He and Valerie having kittens was just one of those things where I just had to accept it because it would hurt my brain if I thought about it too much.
Novice Hame! Well-intentioned extremist who actually didn't manage to hurt anyone, but she does have a bit of the Knight Templar about her. I'm not sure if I'd want a cat in charge of my city, either -- though as long as it's not The Cat from Red Dwarf, I think the city will endure.
The motorway seemed insane -- cause you can certainly *walk* ten miles in more than 6 years -- until it was revealed why people had been shunted there. And why the Doctor's threat to the mood-sellers wasn't so much him throwing a fit, but actually a reasonable reaction in the end.
I love that Martha put her foot down and made the Doctor talk about himself. She's not dumb -- she figured out he was avoiding his home early, but didn't press until she got more information -- and she's not going to let the Doctor get away with crap.
Also, the Madames Cassini were cute! And so very English with their carspotting and doilies! The bowler-hatted driver at the lowest lane seemed to be a Jeeves/Stephen Fry in-joke, with impeccable manners and un-flappability.
The idea that there are more Time Lords out there does open the series up. We've seen the Daleks in both of the previous seasons of New Who, so if a Time Lord or two fell through the cracks caused by the Time War -- assuming that the War shredded space/time, which seems likely from the Doctor saying that Gallifrey doesn't exist anymore -- it's not that surprising. Unfortunately, with the Doctor's luck, the other survivors are also renegades, which means The Master, The Rani, and other Time Lords who tended to be out to get him.
I'm quite looking forward to next week's episodes, though I expect the 'American' accents will range from acceptable to dire.
