There really isn't much earthquake preparedness on the East Coast. Our fault lines don't generate big quakes with any frequency (I think this one was the biggest in over 50 years) and our geology means that while a quake is felt a long distance, its energy is spread out pretty far as well, instead of being really intense in one place.

We're more worried about hurricanes, and for good reason -- we get bad ones every two to three years.
