So... I left work today to look at an apartment quite near work. They'd advertised that they had 2 bedrooms for $1199 (no 1-bedroom apartments were available, at all) -- not great, especially in a complex without balconies, but worth a look.
And the apartment the agent showed me around was very nice, if narrow and with a weird little extension so that the second bedroom would have a window and thus qualify as a bedroom. I could have been happy with it.
Except, it was $1325 a month, which combined with having to pay a gas and electric bill of about "$100 to $150 a month", was too steep for the location. The $1199 a month apartments were "ground floor" apartments. I asked to see one.
It was a basement apartment. A very dark basement apartment. At 4:45 pm in the middle of May, it was gloomy. The basement apartment I live in now has more light. I can only imagine what that place is like during winter -- depressing, in a word.
No.
So tomorrow, I'm going to walk around downtown Silver Spring and see what there is to see. There might be something that is better, there might not. I'm hoping to find someplace that doesn't expect me to pay $1200 plus utilities for a place that is designed to bring out Seasonal Affective Disorder and Vitamin D deficiency.
