Sunday,
insptr_penguin and I went to the Kennedy Center to hear Tracy Grammar and Jim Henry. They were performing as part of the daily free series, which was a great short show. I bought a copy of Flower of Avalon (and got it signed! I'm such a geek!) and The Book of Sparrows. I picked up a copy of ‘Travis John’ lyrics and score for
twistedchick, as it's actively being distributed as a song to protest the war; 'Hey Ho' isn't, but people are still using it as an anti-war song because even though it's about exploitation of child labor and propagandizing kids through war toys, it works as an anti-war song.
Before that, we went to Bangkok Joe's and had price fixe meals as it was Restaurant Week. I had green curry beef wrap appetizers, maple-glazed duck with winter vegetables, and banana spring rolls with vanilla ice cream. Inspector Penguin had shrimp on orange slices, coriander-encrusted salmon, and chocolate cake the approximate darkness of a collapsed star. It was a good meal for a good price, with really elegant presentation and fairly rapid service. The only odd thing was my Thai iced tea came disassembled – the glass of tea first, then the cream and the sweetener for me to mix in. I have no idea what the sweetener was, but it was deadly strong.
Looking through the menu, it’s not that expensive a place, if you avoid the appetizers and just get an entrée and a dessert, and stay away from the alcohol.
If there's another concert there on a day that I can actually *get* to the Kennedy Center by 6pm, I'd love to go again.
