Based on
ellen_fremedon's recommendation I've been playing around with Pandora, the Music Genome Project's customizable streaming music system.
So far it tells me I like 'mild rhythmic syncopation, minor tonality and melodic songwriting'. Well, that's no surprise, but I'm a bit annoyed that while the "Rock" station I made seems fine, the "Ballads" station suffers from the fact that Pandora didn't know half the artists I tried to enter, including Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer, Mediaeval Baebes, and Cry Cry Cry.
It's going to get a very screwy idea of what I think ballads are, if it can't find half the artists. It's not like I can enter They Might Be Giants and expect it to throw me a Fairport Convention tune in response...
