Did you know that there was a Norse-derived language in the Orkney Islands called Norn? And that it only went extinct in the late 1700s?
I think I have a new fic bunny nibbling at my ankles now. Can you imagine Carlos Javier dealing with a student who can't even speak English -- or two, if Scotius was from a Gaelic-speaking area (I don't think he was; I bet he was a lowlander and spoke Scots English)...
