Yesterday, after guild, I hit G-Street Fabrics for some odds and ends towards [livejournal.com profile] sanj's birthday present. Of course, I stopped by A C Moore, partly because I needed size 11 dpns, but mainly because it's fun to browse.

They were selling mill ends for $5/lb. A lot of it was actually labelled "100% unknown fiber", which I'm pretty sure meant 'terrible acrylic', but there were bags of cotton yarn too. By color and weight, it looked like Peaches and Cream, though it wasn't labeled that.

So I bought a bag of white, a bag of burgundy, and a bag of variegated pastel. The white and burgundy will be woven into towels and place mats; I'm going to experiment with huck lace and maybe do a few twill gamps. The variegated pastel will be made into a least one garter stitch baby blanket. I have enough yarn that I can probably make two, and still go wild with crocheted trims.

Do you think anyone will report them to a bunch of government regulatory bodies for that "100% unknown fiber"? It's an amusing solution, but I don't think it'd go down well long-term.
