Because this does not make me happy:

Registered Users. When you register through the Site and submit your Personal Information to create a profile webpage, Delicious Users will see your “Screen Name” and first and last name (“Required Member Identifiers”). You can choose what other Personal Information you provide as part of your profile (“Other Member Information”) and in some cases you can choose whether to share that information publicly on the Site by making selections via the “Settings” section of your profile webpage. Providing Other Member Information is voluntary and should correlate with the degree of interaction you want to have with Delicious Users. We recommend that you guard your anonymity and sensitive information.

Do I want people to see my real name linked to my fannish bookmark collection? No. Does the new Delicious TOS imply that they will? Yes...

I have three separate delicious accounts for exactly this reason.

Pinboard is the alternative that I also use. It isn't free anymore though, but it's trivial to upload your delicious links.

I don't think having separate accounts will help, since they'd all be linked to your real name, and your real name would be displayed to other members of AVOS-Delicious.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but if you have two accounts, one that is "Bob Smith" and the other that is "asskicker101" and neither of the email addresses are shared, then how could your real name (e.g. Bob Smith) be connected to asskicker101?

i just went to try this, and it didn't have any warnings about putting in a real first and last name, nor were those fields pre-filled in any way. i broke my pseud in half and put half in each field, and it accepted it without qualm.

Me three. I am frequently Cinco Demaygirl in these situations and no service has ever noticed or cared.

My account is now ciaan with the first name ciaan and the last name ciaan. The site doesn't seem to care what you put in at all, so far.

Just did that sign-up thing a few minutes ago. I briefly considered filling in "Fyr" and "Drakken" for my name (which I've done before on previous accounts) but wasn't sure if the name would be publicly displayed or not.

All my bookmarks are private anyway (or they should be, at any rate, though some of the older ones weren't and I kind of lost interest partway through the process of culling through the old bookmarks to correct tags and eliminate the dead links), so I'm not particularly bothered by this as compared to the great convenience of still having a working Delicious for my bookmarks. If this makes the Delicious Blackberry app start working again, I'm probably going to applaud the change. (Or not, since I've already converted over to using Tumblr for refinding the links I run across mobile browsing on Twitter or Facebook, and I'm a lot better about coming back in a day or two and actually dealing with them there, what with not being able to let Tumblr go unchecked longer than a weekend without having an unbelievable amount to wade through.)

So, anyway, I hadn't been able to find a bookmarking application that did what I'd been using Delicious for (though a large part of that is probably down to my own specific issue of wanting to be able to bookmark things I find on my Blackberry in a way I'll be able to access them on a computer later), though I'd been having the thought to use Google Chrome's bookmark-synching function instead. Kept postponing owing to wanting to finish culling my Delicious bookmarks first before importing them, and I didn't get around to it, etc. EverNote I think was one of the ones I briefly experimented with, and there were a few others I couldn't get to work, either, due to the way their servers got whomped when the news of Delicious' presumed shutdown hit.

Oh, hey, I just went to my Delicious account page and got into Settings and one of the new options is "Edit Public Profile" and I was able to unclick the box and tell it my display name is to be "FyrDrakken." (The default setting was for my first name only, at least.)

and in some cases you can choose whether to share that information publicly on the Site by making selections via the “Settings” section of your profile webpage.

I hit the "Settings" section and the options included name, e-mail, and website address, each of which you could fill in yourself. There was also an option not to have any public profile at all.

AVOS has taken enough control that certain AVOS-specific items are showing up on the Settings page -- and, even more noticeably, in that I can log in the regular way again instead of having to route through an extra couple of steps to use my Yahoo! log-in, as happened after I made the mistake of linking my Delicious account to my Yahoo! account.

OTOH, I went to have another look at the Settings page last night to see if I could tell, and the changes I had made to my public profile had vanished and it was back to the default of displaying my given name. I thought maybe I hadn't clicked the save option after changing it the first time and did so again -- but when I had a look just now, it had again defaulted to showing my first name. I tried unclicking the option to have any information displayed at all -- I'll have to see if it's still there next time I log in.

Pinboard.in and diigo.com

My current setup is tagging with diigo, which pushes to delicious. Pinboard then pulls from delicious. (I have over 10,000 bookmarks which I really don't want to lose.)

I've switched to Chrome so I'm using the Chrome diigo plug-in/extension.
