Computer help?

I'm getting an error message whenever I turn on my computer "MSASN1.dll not found". It doesn't seem to effect running any of my programs, but I'd like to know what to do to correct it.

I'm also unable to install the Java Runtime Environment because it can't find the "windows/TEMP/RegUtils.dll", and I need JRE for the job search.

Any suggestion or explanations from you guys?

If I have to, I suppose I can reset the computer to factory specifications, but I really don't want to do that if I don't have to.

Here (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=581580&messageID=3400995) is something regarding regUtils.dll. Check the forum responces for tips.

What OS are you running?

Windows 98 with an AMD K-6 chip.

I use Firefox as my primary browser, but I have Netscape 7.2 so that I can run JRE.

Quote from one of the tech support forums:
A customer of our company had the same problem with his NT 4.0 and an old IE (2.0!!). After installing the current IE (6.1) , the installation of the jre was possible

You might try updating/installing IE as a last resort, otherwise, perhaps try installing an older version of JRE?

Regarding the other DLL file, I agree with what [livejournal.com profile] wymsie said, try downloading a fresh .dll file off the web. MSASN1.dll is usually located in C:/Windows folder -- you can always remove it later if it doesn't work.

Eeck, I take that back. MSASN1.dll is part of SP1 update for Internet Explorer 5.5 (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=288939). The easiest way to get it back might be to update your Internet Explorer.
